Both employment offers were made on the recommendation of Police Chief Peter Cooke and the borough’s police commission, according to the resolutions.

A Class II SLEO in Englishtown is paid $14 an hour.

Officials said the appointment of Reefer and McLearen would be conditional upon the successful passage of a background investigation, a physical examination, a psychological evaluation and firearms qualification. The date of their hiring will be determined by Cooke.

The offers of employment to Reefer and McLearen followed the resignations of James Sakers, a Class II SLEO, and Michael Makwinski, a full-time officer. Council members accepted Sakers’ and Makwinski’s resignations at the same meeting.

Sakers’ last day of employment in Englishtown was April 22. Officials said he accepted a full-time position with the Hillsborough Township Police Department. Makwinski’s last day of employment in Englishtown was May 5.

In other police business, council members concluded the probation period for Officer Katelyn Kwiecinski. She was appointed as a full-time probationary officer in April 2018, with her probation period scheduled to be effective for one year. A resolution stated Cooke recommended that Kwiecinski’s probation period be removed.

Kwiecinski initially worked as a Class II SLEO upon joining the Englishtown Police Department in 2015. She also worked as a Class II SLEO in Sea Girt.

In other business, council members authorized Englishtown’s renewal into the Central Jersey Health Insurance Fund, which provides health insurance, dental insurance and prescription coverage to borough employees.

And, council members authorized services from B&W Construction Company of New Jersey, South River, for work on a broken water main at Heritage Drive on March 7. The firm’s services cost $10,882, according to a resolution.
