The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, Freehold Township, will present “A Tale of Two Cities: Tales from the Early History of the Jews in New York and Philadelphia,” a lecture by Rabbi Dr. Robert E. Fierstien, in celebration of the upcoming Fourth of July and the 365th anniversary of the Jewish settlement in America. The lecture will take place at 11 a.m. June 26. Admission is $3 for museum members and $5 for non-members. Students are free. The talk will be followed by a light lunch.

New York’s Jewish history goes back to Dutch Colonial times with the arrival in the fall of 1654 of 23 Jews escaping from Recife, Brazil. Once in New York, they had to stand up for their civil rights and acceptance, according to a press release.

While Philadelphia’s Jewish history starts nearly 100 years later, it was once the intellectual capital of Jewish America and featured many remarkable personalities, according to the press release.

Fierstein is an adjunct professor of Jewish Studies at Richard Stockton University and co-chair of the museum’s History Committee. To make a paid reservation (non-refundable), call 732-252-6990 or visit jhmomc.org/events
