MILLTOWN – United Way of Central Jersey (UWCJ) worked with executives at Banana Republic stores in Central Jersey to organize a volunteer activity that supports children in the community.

Employees working in stores in North Brunswick and Old Bridge conducted fundraisers to purchase books and supplies for students to take home.

Donations were delivered by United Way of Central Jersey to the Acelero Head Start in South Amboy.

“We promote literacy in our families’ homes, and these sets are a great way to help do so. We truly appreciate this,” said Natasha Herbst, center director, according to a statement provided by UWCJ.

Hernan Hernandez at Banana Republic in North Brunswick said, “My colleagues wrote a letter to each child to encourage them to read, and they decorated the box. We are looking forward to working on more activities in the future that will help children with limited resources.”

Gloria Aftanski, president of United Way of Central Jersey, said she welcomes the help from Banana Republic employees.

“We work with several schools that serve low-income populations, and Banana Republic can be a great help to provide resources that these families and students need,” she said in the statement.
