Community invited to celebrate Laura Donovan School’s 50th anniversary

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – At 50 years young, the Laura Donovan School is celebrating a significant milestone: 50 years of educating the students of Freehold Township since the school opened in September 1968.

When the 2018-19 school year began in September, staff members and students kicked off the year with the school-wide theme of “Celebrate,” according to a press release.

Hallways and classrooms were adorned with messages celebrating learning, families, school and the future. As the school year comes to a close, a culminating anniversary event has been planned for staff members, students and families from past to present.

The Evening of the Arts and Sciences, featuring “Fifty Fabulous Years of Laura Donovan School” will take place May 29.

The school day will begin with an assembly highlighting student performers, followed by student contributions to a time capsule, past student and staff interviews, a formal dedication ceremony, and the creation of “Our School Rocks” garden. Everyone will be traveling back in time for a spirit day as they dress in attire from 1968, according to the press release.

The public evening event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature an agenda filled with student performers, a student art gallery display, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) exhibitions, a family book fair, a timeline walk of the past 50 years, an anniversary photo booth, “We Are All Connected” collaborative art, a legacy tile wall station, refreshments and more, according to the press release.

All members of the community are invited to the celebration from 5:30-8:30 p.m. May 29 at the Laura Donovan School, Stonehurst Boulevard.
