Retired Navy Captain to serve in Hillsborough Memorial Day festivities

A Hillsborough resident will be honored for his years of military service this Memorial Day weekend

Hillsborough Township Mayor Frank DelCore announced on May 17 that Hillsborough resident Timothy J. Jordan, a 30-year Navy Veteran, will lead Hillsborough’s 2019 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremonies on May 25.

Jordan earned his commission through the United States Naval Academy and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science.  He served more than 30 years in various duty assignments in the Reserves and Activity duty.

During his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2006, 2008 and 2009, Jordan served with two separate Marine Corps Commands and the Navy Seabee’s.  His personal military decorations include the Defence Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Forces Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) Operation Iraqi Freedom OIF, Operation Enduring Freedom OEF as well as various other ribbons and unit awards.

DelCore said he felt that the honor is one of the highest, most honorable recognition a Hillsborough resident can earn.

“It is always an honor to commemorate Memorial Day and having one of our Hillsborough resident veterans serve as the Grand Marshal as well as having all of the Hillsborough Veterans lead the parade makes the event that much more special.” DelCore said.  “There is no group more appropriate to lead us in paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation, than our military veterans.”

In his civilian life, Jordan is a retired Professional Firefighter for the City of Hackensack  and has trained in numerous firefighting strategies, Emergency Management Operations and Weapons of Mass Destruction procedures. He is currently the Operations Chief for the Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center at Picatinny Arsenal.

Now retired, Jordan has been a resident of Hillsborough since 1991.  He lives in the township with his wife Caryn, and has worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough School District for more than 15 years.

The Memorial Day commemorative program will kick off with the ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building at 7:30 a.m.  It will be followed by the Memorial Day parade, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Auten and Triangle Roads.

The event will conclude with the ceremony at the Garden of Hono, at 11:15 a.m.  The ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast will be held May 25, rain or shine.  The rain date for the Parade and Garden of Honor Ceremony is Sunday, May 26.

All Hillsborough veterans are invited to participate in the ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast and to lead Hillsborough’s Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration program on May 25.  Registration is required for the breakfast and can be completed online at the Township’s Parks and Recreation website, by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 908-369-4832 or by completing the paper registration form.

“All Township veterans, spouses and widows are invited to provide their leadership and join us on May 25 in commemorating this important day,” Mayor DelCore said.
