Borkowski appointed to seat on Upper Freehold Regional school board

A former member of the Borough Council in Allentown will return to serve his community as a member of the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education.

Wil Borkowski was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the board on May 16. He is scheduled to be sworn in as a member of the board on June 3.

Borkowski’s appointment follows the departure of board member Lara Michaud, who resigned from her position in April.

Borkowski and Elizabeth Smith applied for the open seat and were interviewed by board members during the May 16 meeting. Borkowski was subsequently selected to fill the vacancy.

Upper Freehold Regional serves school-age residents of Upper Freehold Township and Allentown. The board is comprised of seven Upper Freehold residents and two Allentown residents.

Through a send-receive relationship between Upper Freehold Regional and the Millstone Township K-8 School District, students of high school age who live in Millstone attend Allentown High School. A Millstone representative sits on the board and votes on matters that pertain to the high school.

Prior to stepping down, Michaud was one of the board’s two Allentown representatives. Kurt Wayton also represents the borough. Only residents of Allentown were eligible to apply for the vacant seat.

Borkowski, a resident of Allentown for 19 years, served on the Borough Council from 2015-17. He was selected by his fellow members of the governing body to serve as the council president during all three years of his term.
