Old Bridge man charged in auto fatality

 

OLD BRIDGE – A man from Old Bridge has been charged with causing the death of a 19-year-old woman and injuring another in the late evening hours of May 25.

Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 28, has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, leaving the scene of an accident in the second degree, assault by auto in the fourth degree, and driving while intoxicated, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department.

The victim, Aliza Akhtar,19, of Old Bridge, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained from the crash, according to officials. Her passenger, a 15-year old female, was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

 

The investigation began after police were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Texas Road, near Route 9 in Old Bridge, at 11:55 p.m., according to the statement. The investigation determined that Tsytsenia was driving his Mercedes S550, traveling east on Texas Road, when he allegedly crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head on into an oncoming Toyota Corolla, driven by the victim, according to the statement. Both females were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Tsyternia allegedly attempted to leave the scene but was apprehended by police as he was walking away from the crash, according to the statement. He was taken into custody and was treated at a local hospital.
