A 46-year-old Trenton man who went on a burglary spree in the Colonial Lakelands neighborhood, which included the theft of two cars and the break-in into two homes, has been arrested, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
Keith Williams, 46, of Trenton, has been charged with two counts each of burglary, motor vehicle theft and attempted burglary, and multiple theft-related charges in connection with the break-ins, which occurred between April 21 and May 12, police said.
Two homes were entered through open windows while the occupants were asleep in the house, police said. Williams took some items from the houses and also took a car from each of the residences. The victims learned of the burglaries when they awoke the next morning.
Williams tried unsuccessfully to enter a third house, but the windows were locked, police said.
One of the stolen cars was involved in an accident in Trenton on May 28, police said. The vehicle fled into Hamilton Township, and the driver jumped out of the car and fled.
Through their investigation, Lawrence police officers were able to tie Williams as a suspect in the motor vehicle thefts and burglaries. He was also identified as a suspect in the attempted break-in to a car parked on Princeton Avenue on May 28.
While he was on patrol on May 28, Police Officer Marc Poveromo saw Williams near the intersection of Princeton Pike and Franklin Corner Road. He was arrested without incident by Lawrence Township police officers, and taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center to wait for a detention hearing.
Meanwhile, police are still looking for a silver 2014 Acura MDX that was reported stolen. It is believed that different license plates have been substituted for the ones that were on the SUV.
Police Officer John Stever, along with police Detectives Joseph Radlinsky, Daniel Gladney and Andrew Lee, worked on the month-long investigation.
