MILLSTONE – Municipal officials in Millstone Township have advanced a project to improve roads in the community through the adoption of a $1 million bond ordinance.
On May 15, members of the Township Committee adopted the bond ordinance that will provide an appropriation of $1 million for the 2019 road improvement program. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $736,250 in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation.
According to the ordinance, the road improvement program includes, but is not limited to, improvements on Disbrow Hill Road, Huneke Way, Prodelin Way, Agress Road, Paint Island Spring Road and miscellaneous minor road and drainage repairs throughout the township, including all work and materials.
A total of $38,750 will be made as a down payment on the improvements, according to the ordinance. A $225,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be used for the improvements to Disbrow Hill Road.
In other business, the committee appointed Charles Klehr as a seasonal employee for the township’s Clean Communities program. According to the resolution, he will receive a rate of $12.50 an hour for a maximum 40-hour work week.
Committee members appointed Amanda Salerno as the qualified purchasing agent for a term commencing June 1 and ending Dec. 31. Salerno will receive an annual stipend of $5,000, according to the resolution.
And, officials awarded a $3,000 contract to Meco Inc. for emergency drainage pipe repair on Red Valley Road.
Finally, the committee introduced a bond ordinance that, if adopted, will provide an appropriation of $250,000 for the acquisition of vehicles for the Department of Public Works. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $237,500 in bonds or notes and a down payment of $12,500. A public hearing is scheduled for June 5 and the committee may adopt the ordinance that evening.
