A man from Old Bridge charged on May 26 with causing the death of a 19-year-old woman and seriously injuring her passenger has also been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 28, was charged on June 10 with one count of aggravated manslaughter in the first degree, and one count of assault by auto in the third degree, after it was determined the juvenile passenger suffered serious bodily injury, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department.

The new charges were filed against Tsytsenia during an investigation by the Old Bridge Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The continuing investigation revealed that on May 25, Tystsenia was allegedly intoxicated while driving his Mercedes Benz S550 in a reckless and aggressive manner.

Investigators were able to determine that Tsytsenia was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he crossed over the double yellow lines to pass a vehicle operating at or near the speed limit, leading to a head on impact with an oncoming Toyota Corolla, driven by the victim, according to the statement.

He previously was charged on May 26 with vehicular homicide in the second degree, leaving the scene of an accident in the second degree, assault by auto in the fourth degree, and driving while intoxicated.

The victim, Aliza Akhtar, 19, of Old Bridge was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained from the crash, according to the statement. Her passenger, a 15-year old female, was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Tsytsenia is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a Detention Hearing scheduled for June 11 in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Alberto Rivas.

Anyone with information should call Police Officer Ronald Atlak of the Old Bridge Police Department at 732-721-5600 or Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4328.
