Bordentown Township Police officials have reported an update on four construction laborers who suffered serious injuries after falling 50 feet when scaffolding collapsed at a worksite in the township.
Township police officials reported that on June 5 at approximately 12:25 pm, the department’s officials responded to the Team Campus Phase II construction site, which is located in the 100 block of Route 130 for an industrial accident.
The four construction workers, all Newark residents, involved in the incident were identified by officials as Luis Angel Yanza-Siguencia, 31; Martin Escobar-Arqueta, 32; Sebastiao Rocha Do Nacimento, 46; Manuen Yanza-Siguencia, 47.
Officials reported that Luis Yanza-Siguencia remains hospitalized at Capital Health Medical Center in Pennington in critical condition and that the other three employees were treated and released on June 5.
Upon arrival, officials said that officers and responding firefighters from the Mission Fire Company located four victims who sustained injuries after a section of scaffolding they were standing on had collapsed.
These workers were performing masonry work on a building at the time of the collapse about 50 feet off the ground, according to officials. All four wounded are employed by Ben-Mar Construction of Waterford Works.
Police, firefighters and Bordentown EMS tended to the four victims, and they were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton for treatment of serious injuries, officials said.
Officials reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) was notified about the accident and responded to the scene along with township construction officials.
Township police chief Brian Pesce said his department investigated the incident, and reported that there was no sign of criminal act in the matter.
Officials said that the incident is currently under investigation by OSHA.
The lot under construction is part of a second phase project associated with Team Campus, and is anticipated to have three medical offices totaling 155,053-square-feet and two retail buildings totaling 19,600-square-feet constructed on Route 130 north.
The preliminary and final site plan approval of the second phase project was approved by the township planning board in January 2018.
