The Quakerbridge Road bridge over the Amtrak railroad tracks, which is four lanes wide, will be reduced to one lane in each direction for emergency repairs, beginning June 17.

Mercer County officials said the bridge, which spans Lawrence and West Windsor townships, has been deemed structurally deficient. Parts of the deck, headers, deck joints, approaches and both sidewalks need immediate repair.

One lane will be closed in each direction, around the clock. Because the repairs need to be made on the full width of the bridge, Quakerbridge Road also will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Mercer County has hired Underground Utilities Corp. to perform the work, which is expected to take 15 calendar days – depending on the weather.

Signs will be posted in advance of the starting date. Motorists can expect delays, Mercer County officials said.
