Edison woman allegedly dozes off, causes five car collision on Route 27

EDISON – Charges against a 23-year-old Edison woman are pending after she allegedly dozed off as she drove on Route 27 south, causing her to swerve her car into oncoming traffic near Municipal Boulevard.

As a result, three people were treated for minor injuries on June 16.

Police said the woman’s Toyota Corolla was southbound on Route 27, but swerved into the northbound lanes where it allegedly sideswiped or grazed two cars and caused two other vehicles to collide as drivers tried to get out of her way, police said.

Three people from the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries at the scene or were taken to area hospitals after complaining about pains. Police said none were admitted for treatment.

One of Route 27’s northbound lanes was temporarily closed during the accident investigation and to allow damaged cars to be towed from the scene, police said. Charges against the woman are pending the outcome of a police investigation into the accidents.
