Hillsborough Township Public Schools recently announced the appointment of a new director for the human resources department.

District officials reported on June 11 that Michael Callahan will serve as the new director of human resources for the school district.

Callahan was unanimously approved by the Hillsborough Board of Education at the June 10 board meeting. He will begin his new position on July 2 with the district.

Callahan has been with Hillsborough Township Public Schools since July 2015, and has served as the district supervisor of visual/performing arts and related areas. While in the district supervisor role, Callahan also oversaw the curriculum, instruction and staffing of all related arts across the district’s nine schools.

District officials said he also worked collaboratively with the members of the curriculum and instruction department to create and implement a comprehensive professional development program for staff members throughout the district.

“Serving this community has been a true privilege,” Callahan said in a statement. “I am extremely proud of the work we do and elated to expand my role with Hillsborough Township Public Schools.”

Prior to joining Hillsborough, Callahan worked at Somerville Public Schools as Director of Chorus & Drama, and the Exploratory Team Teacher. In addition to Callahan’s teaching and team leader duties, he was also the Founding Director of Somerville Public School’s Summer Performing Arts Camp, a highly attended full-day program.

Callahan studied music education at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He also holds a Master’s of Arts in Educational Administration from Caldwell College, a certificate in education technology from The College of New Jersey, and is working towards completing his doctorate in educational leadership from the College of Saint Elizabeth this summer.

Upon approval of his appointment, the Hillsborough Superintendent of Schools Jorden Schiff expressed his positive regards to the newest member of the Hillsborough school community.

“As an administrator, Michael has demonstrated how caring leadership mixed with high energy can help us attract and keep the very finest talent from across New Jersey,” Schiff said in a statement. “His deep understanding of the district’s students and staff will serve him well in his new position as director of human resources.”
