NORTH BRUNSWICK – Well before the doors opened to guests, the Courtyard Marriott in North Brunswick was already 10 percent booked for its first night on June 14.
For June 15, the expectation was to sell out.
“This is an upscale hotel for the area. The Marriott brand sells itself. The brand stands alone in hospitality,” General Manager Miguel Colon announced during the soft opening of the hotel on June 14, just hours before hotel guests were set to arrive.
This particular Marriott is the first modularly built one in New Jersey, according to Colon, which is a new concept of construction where it was pre-fabricated off site and then put together on site.
“It’s a classy town. The transit village, as it develops, is going to make it even more of a classy town. This Marriott represents the kind of quality our town has,” Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack explained.
The six-floor hotel is located in the MainStreetNB village off of Route 1 near Commerce Boulevard. The building features 124 rooms including 11 extended large rooms and one dual room suite, a full bar, a bistro that sells breakfast and dinner, a 1,200-square-foot meeting space, a fitness center, an indoor heated pool, outdoor furniture and a fire pit, a 24-hour market, and a complimentary shuttle to the Jersey Avenue train station.
“From the earliest stages of planning, [the conference room] was of particular interest,” Director of Community Development Michael Hritz said, mainly because other hotels in North Brunswick do not have such a space.
The addition of the hotel to the proposed transit village site began more than two years ago.
Nearby in the complex are The Greene Turtle restaurant, Panera Bread, Costco and soon-to-be condominiums.
“This brings culture as well as brand recognition into North Brunswick,” said Colon, who himself is a longtime township resident. “The service that is coming out of here is out of the home of North Brunswick.”
The soft opening was also attended by Councilman Robert Davis, Councilwoman Amanda Guadagnino and Rabbi Levi Azimov of the Chabad of South Brunswick.
