Three members of a local Boy Scout Troop have attained the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
At recent meetings, Borough Council members in Freehold Borough passed resolutions honoring Allan Edwards, William Edwards and Kyle Potochar on the occasion of their attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout.
All three young men are members of Boy Scout Troop 155, which meets at the West Freehold School, Freehold Township. Allan Edwards and William Edwards are residents of Freehold Borough and Kyle Potochar is a resident of Freehold Township.
Council members made note of the significant efforts associated with the achievement of becoming an Eagle Scout and said individuals who attain excellence in chosen fields of endeavor such as the Boy Scouts are deserving of recognition and commendation by their community.
Allan recently graduated from Manalapan High School and plans to attend Brookdale Community College. His Eagle Scout project consisted of clearing and marking a section of a historic road from the 1700s that connects Monmouth Battlefield State Park, on the border of Manalapan and Freehold Township, to a local development. He designed the symbol of a cannon for the trail because the road was used to bring cannons to the Battle of Monmouth, according to the resolution.
William attends High Technology High School, Middletown, and will graduate in 2021. For his Eagle Scout project, he refurbished 10 benches near Monmouth Battlefield State Park. William and others removed rotted boards, replaced them with new lumber and finished the project by applying a base coat of paint.
Kyle recently graduated from Freehold Township High School and will attend Brookdale Community College to pursue an associate’s degree in applied science in automotive technology. He is an active volunteer firefighter and third generation member of Richardson Engine Company No. 2 of the Freehold Fire Department. Kyle is currently participating in a firefighter course at the Monmouth County Fire Academy.
Kyle’s Eagle Scout project consisted of painting the top of fire hydrants in Freehold Borough that are supplied by a 12-inch or a 16-inch water main. The purpose of the light blue paint is to make it easier for firefighters to quickly identify the relative fire service water supply available from a hydrant and to ensure firefighters will have an adequate water supply needed to fight a fire, according to the council’s resolution.
