Budding young film directors willshow off their works at the annual Princeton Student Film Festival July 17-18 at the Princeton Public Library on Witherspoon Street.
The film showings begin at 6:30 p.m., and will be viewed in the Community Room. Admission is free. An after-party will be held in the library’s cafe with refreshments provided by The Bent Spoon.
The annual film festival, which is in its 16th year, features 18 short works by high school and college students. Many of the film makers will be on hand to discuss their films with attendees.
Nearly 140 films were submitted. They ranged in style and genre from animation, comedy, dramatic feature, documentary, experimental, romantic comedy and personal narratives.
“The films we selected represent some of the best and most dynamic work made by emerging film-makers,” said Susan Conlon, who heads the Youth Services Department. She coordinates the event.
“The films reflect their commitment to visual and technical craft and the art of good story-telling,” Conlon said. The festival is a chance for the film-makers to show their works to a live audience and to get recognition and feedback, she added.
The student film-makers are enrolled in schools that include Princeton University, Montclair University, New York Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, Syracuse University, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, the School of Visual Arts and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
