Peaches will take center stage at Terhune Orchards.
For 15 years, the Just Peachy Festival at the farm in Princeton centers around the fruit by having activities and and shows during a two-day event on Aug. 3 and Aug. 4.
“We want people to take their children and go pick out peaches. A lot of children do not have an idea of where food comes from,” said Gary Mount, owner of Terhune Orchards. “They think it is grown in the super market. For the first time at this festival we will have ‘Pick Your Own Peaches,’ so we just want the children to learn where their food comes from.”
For those attending, admission is set for $10 per person, according to officials.
On both days, residents and guests will be able to enjoy the festival at the site, which is located at 330 Cold Soil Road, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Farm officials said activities include a tractor-drawn wagon ride through the orchards, pony rides, rubber duck races, interactive hands-on fun in the Discovery Barn, a scavenger hunt and old-fashioned games.
There will also be live country music from Swingin Dixie on Aug. 3 and Tookany Creek on Aug. 4.
“The best part for me is the music. We have bands for each day. The Dixie band has all of the traditional brass instruments, which is really great,” he said. “It kind of highlights the summer for me. It is always nice as well to see the other band Tookany Creek preform. Having nice music just picks up your step.”
Terhune Orchards will also bring back a favorite to the farm a program called ‘Eyes of the Wild.’
“It is a rescue organization that takes in wild animals that have been injured or lost. They bring animals and show and talk to people about the animals,” Mount said. “Some of the animals the children get to pet. This is very popular. The room is always packed when we have this program.”
During the event on Aug. 3, there will also be Pam’s Annual Canning and Freezing class taking place inside the Big Barn. The class will teach about Pam Mount’s (owner of Terhune Orchards) secrets for preserving peaches and other fruits and vegetables.
