Residents in Hopewell Township will have their 2019 township tax bills delayed due to the  county certification process.

Hopewell Township officials announced that the delay is because the county process is taking longer than normal for the third quarter.

Tax bills are now expected to be available online as of July 24, and will be mailed to all residents next week, according to officials.

“We wanted to share this news proactively given our issues with the Pennington Post Office last year.  It’s unfortunate that the state, and then therefore the county needed extra time to certify the tax rate,” Hopewell Township Mayor Kristin McLaughlin said.

Township officials explained that as a result of this delay, Hopewell Township will extend the grace period for quarter three tax payments, with these payments now being due within 25 days after they are mailed, which will be between Aug.19 and Aug.22

Residents can pay their property taxes on-line, drop off a check in-person at the Tax Collector office, or mail a check to Hopewell Township, according to officials.

“This is completely out of our control, but will affect our residents. To be fair to our residents, we will also be extending the quarter three grace period for property tax payments,” McLaughlin said. “Payments will now be due no later than 25 days after the bills are mailed, likely sometime the week of Aug.19.”

Officials said Hopewell Township will be able to delay its quarter three payments to the county and schools as a result of this issue.
