The Global Business Summit is an event that the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber believes can assist businesses in Central New Jersey to expand internationally.

The chamber is partnering with the Middlesex County Regional Chamber to organize the event for Sept. 13. The even will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Princeton.

“This event is for both domestic importers, international companies and the companies that are located here that are global. Those are the three target markets we are working with,” said Peter Crowley, president and CEO of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The summit will feature keynote speaker Ian Steff, who is deputy assistant secretary for manufacturing in the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Steff oversees approximately 1,400 trade and investment professionals based in more than 100 U.S. cities and 70 markets around the world.

He also manages a $300 million budget and a broad portfolio of International Trade Administration initiatives aimed at increasing the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers and service providers, according to chamber officials.

“Ian is going to talk about the international approach to manufacturing. We are excited to have him come in from Washington, D.C.,” Crowley said. “We will also have a presentation for company officials who want to know how they can get their company to go internationally.”

According to officials, the presentation after Steff is also set to discuss the type of global business the new U.S-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) facilitates.

Officials said the summit is organized through the chamber’s Global Opportunities Program

The program is a resource to companies in the Princeton and Central Jersey region who currently or plan to do business overseas, and also serves as a resource for international corporations wanting to enter the U.S. market.

“Global is one of the multiple segments under the chamber. This is our third year with this event. This summit got started because a couple companies wanted to know more about the international opportunities,” he said. “The summit is our largest event under the global segment of the chamber.”

The summit will take place at the Double Tree in Princeton and will include about 150 businesses.

“We want to let companies know that there are multiple opportunities to expand internationally that are not counter productive to their individual business models. This is not a scary type of thing,” Crowley said. “This summit also allows for businesses to bring in partners internationally.”
