DeLuca was unanimously approved by the Hillsborough Board of Education at the July 22 meeting and began his new position with the district on July 23, according to officials.

For approximately 20 years, district officials said that Hillsborough Township Public Schools outsourced this position, but by bringing it in house and creating the new position, significant cost savings were realized.

DeLuca is already familiar to Hillsborough Township as he joined the district in 1993 as a maintenance worker/custodian. After serving many years in that capacity, he transitioned to the role of maintenance foreman and since March, he has served as acting director of buildings and grounds.

Superintendent of Hillsborough Township Public Schools Jorden Schiff released a statement following the promotion to express his delight for DeLuca.

“For many years, Mr. DeLuca has been well respected by our staff and we look forward to seeing him succeed in his new capacity,” Schiff said.

The promotion for DeLuca comes off the heels of multiple school district employees either hired or promoted this summer.

The school district also announced the selection of Christopher Ireland as the new supervisor of visual/performing arts and related areas for the school district in July. Ireland was approved by the Hillsborough Board of Education at the July 22 meeting and will begin his new position with the district in September.

Michael Callahan was named as the new director of human resources for the school district in June. Callahan was unanimously approved by the Hillsborough Board of Education at the June 10 meeting and began his new position with the district in July, too.
