Mater Dei Prep offers unique learning opportunities

Mater Dei Prep is a private, Catholic high school located on an expansive 32-acre campus in Middletown.

For more than 50 years, Mater Dei Prep has attracted talented students who recognize the unique learning opportunities the school provides. The board, working with a dedicated faculty and staff, continues the Mater Dei Prep traditions of academic excellence, social consciousness, and faith.

Mater Dei Prep’s relatively small size (350-400 students)—coupled with its myriad and varied opportunities for academic, physical and spiritual growth—means all students have the opportunity to pursue their own interests and dreams. Individuality is encouraged and supported by an engaged and interested staff.

Mater Dei Prep will continue its expansion of four Academic Institutes – Global Leaders, Information Technology, Performing Arts, and Emergency Medical Services and Nursing – designed to teach students the skills needed to excel in today’s diverse, technology-based fields.

Each institute consists of a progression of courses intended to give students a greater understanding of a field of study. All programs feature labs or lab-like working environments, allowing students to learn through hands-on participation. Some of the institutes offer professional certifications as part of the course of study.

Mater Dei Prep has partnered with Rutgers University to bring this exciting and challenging program into the Emergency Medical services and Nursing Institute where students can take college-level courses as well as perform 10 hours of clinical shadowing in sophomore, junior, ad senior year.

Dr. Jean Nichols-Kovacs, who is a member of the Science Department at Mater Dei Prep and an adjunct at Rutgers, will be leading the charge of the EMR and Nursing Institute. MDP is thrilled to welcome new faculty member Naima Mendjel who will be teaching Advanced Placement computer science courses in the Information Technology Institute. Naima holds a B.S in Computer Science and two M.S degrees in IT Systems and Information Technology and Analytics.

Mater Dei Prep continues to recognize the learning needs of all students including those with unique learning abilities.  The Center for Achievement provides in-house instructional accommodations and strategies to ensure each student’s academic success is nurtured and met. In addition, this program comprises a variety of educational support programs for all students, including a writing center, math center, study skills center, and a peer tutoring program for underclassmen.

Mater Dei Prep offers a large variety of college-level courses through the Mater Dei Prep College Advantage Program. The program gives students the opportunity to earn college credit through the Seton Hall University Project Acceleration and Brookdale Community College Dual Enrollment program.
