Bayshore Fishing Derby Aug. 24

The Monmouth County Park System will hold its annual Bayshore Fishing Derby at Bayshore Waterfront Park from 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 24. The event will take place at Port Monmouth Road in Port Monmouth.

The derby is open to beginners and experienced anglers. Park System staff will be on hand to teach individuals how to rig and cast their poles. The event will also feature seining demonstrations.

The cost to enter the derby is $8 per person and $4 per additional person. Pre-registration is accepted online at or by calling 732-842-4000 ext. 1.

Onsite registration is by cash or check only. Participants must supply their own fishing poles, tackle and bait. Those competing must fish from the beach. Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish in three different age categories.
