Monroe welcomes three veterans police officers to the force

MONROE – Three seasoned officers have joined the ranks of the Monroe Township Police Department.

Police Chief Michael J. Biennas said he was proud to welcome his first hires as chief. Joseph L. Cella, Marc J. Kramer and Peter J. Novobilsky were sworn in at a Township Council meeting on Aug. 5. in front of their family members and friends.

Cella spent the first five years of his law enforcement career with the Camden Police Department. He is a graduate of the Camden County College Police Academy and Monmouth University.

Kramer served with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department prior to joining Monroe’s police force. He earned his degree in criminal justice from Rutgers University. He is a graduate of the Monmouth County Police Academy.

Novobilsky served with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department prior to joining Monroe’s police force. He is a graduate of the Mercer County Police Academy.

Mayor Gerald Tamburro said each new officer’s background of prior assignments makes it easier for the police chief and all of the department’s officers with minimum training that has to be done.

“We have the best men and women [officers] in Middlesex County. … I’m prejudiced when I say that, but I mean it,” the mayor said.

The council members welcomed the three officers.

“The Monroe Township Police Department really is a family that keeps all our families safe,” Councilman Charles Dipierro said. “Stay safe and welcome aboard.”
