Lawrence High School had a few good sports teams in the fall of 2018. Its girls soccer, field hockey and girls tennis teams all finished above .500 and each made the NJSIAA playoffs.

Though, the girls soccer team lost its top players after graduation, the field hockey and girls tennis teams will return enough talent to hope to contend once again this fall.

Here is a brief preview of where the Lawrence girls soccer, field hockey and girls tennis teams stand going into 2019.

Lawrence Girls Soccer

In 2018, the Lawrence girls soccer team went 9-7-2 and reached the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 3 sectional tournament, losing in the first round to Burlington Township High School, 1-0.

It was a successful season, but after it ended, Sarah Berardi, the team’s top goal scorer, Evelin Dapprich, the club’s assist leader and Antonia Karpontinis, its starting goalkeeper, all graduated from Lawrence High School. Emily Mihov, another top scorer, graduated, as well.

With a lot of holes to fill, Lauren Edgar, who contributed eight goals and five assists a year ago, is slated to return for the 2019 season.

Lawrence Field Hockey

A year ago, the Lawrence field hockey team finished 10-9 and advanced to the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 sectional tournament quarterfinals, falling to Ocean Township High School, 2-1.

The Cardinals may have even exceeded expectations, too. Their two best players, 39-goal scorer Talia Schenck and goaltender Madison Wingerter, were not even seniors. Now, both are back to lead the team again this fall.

The squad’s next two leading goal scorers, Brooke Roslon and Haley Adamczak, are also returning. Even the team’s next two assist leaders, Ashley Belgrave and Ola Kwasniwski, are slated to come back.

Lawrence Girls Tennis

The Lawrence girls tennis team had a strong season in 2018, going 9-7 and reaching the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 sectional tournament quarterfinals, losing to Ocean Township High School, 3-2.

In New Jersey high school tennis matches, there are three singles matches and two doubles matches. So the singles lineup is essential, and Lawrence is bringing back all three of its singles players from last year.

There is Dharsini Rangaswamy at No. 1, Courtney Copeland at No. 2 and Arya Baskaran at No. 3.

Three of Lawrence’s four doubles players are also returning from last year. Sadena Rishindran is returning at first doubles. Dhakshayini Suresh and Disha Bharj are projected to return at second doubles, though the lineup could easily change before the new season starts.

The Lawrence High School girls soccer, field hockey and girls tennis teams will all begin their new fall regular season in early September.
