Sailors are some of the most highly-trained people on the planet, according to U.S. Navy officials, and this training requires highly-dedicated instructors.
At Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), instructors at advanced technical schools teach sailors to be highly skilled, operational and combat-ready warfighters, while providing the tools and opportunities for continuous learning and development.
Seaman Marienoelle Gonzales, a native of Old Bridge, is a student at NETC, learning the skills needed to be an electronics technician. An electronics technician repairs and maintains communications equipment, navigation systems and radars onboard Navy warships.
Gonzales, a 2009 graduate of St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, credits success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned growing up in Old Bridge.
“I learned to be versatile and to open my perspective to all angles,” she said. “In my naval career, this mindset made me adaptive and more equipped to handle challenging situations.”
Gonzales plays an important role in America’s focus on rebuilding military readiness, strengthening alliances and reforming business practices in support of National Defense Strategy.
“Serving in the Navy means contributing to something from a global scale to a local scale, and being able to impact lives everywhere,” Gonzales said.
