Mater Dei continues building relationship with World Youth Alliance and UN

Mater Dei Prep in Middletown will offer new programs for students for the 2018-19 school year.

The Mater Dei Prep (MDP) Global Leaders have been expanding its influence in global communities.

On July 9, George Anthony, Head of Global Leaders, met with the President and Director of the World Youth Alliance (WYA) to discuss a collaborative partnership between the two organizations, according to a press release. 

The WYA is a leading global organization engaging youth in leadership roles and the need to protect human dignity and human rights throughout the world.

Members of WYA will visit Mater Dei Prep in October to learn more about Global Leaders. Bryan Scotton, MDP Religion teacher, will assist with the goals and planning between the two organizations, according to the press release. 

Anthony attended The High-Level Political Forum on July 12. He discussed the achievements of his students and their roles in creating peaceful sustainable communities in support of United Nation Development goals, according to the press release. 

On July 17, Anthony was invited to speak to the United Nations interns at The Temple of Understanding Headquarters in New York.

He spoke about the development of the Global Leaders “Education Tool Kit” developed by Mater Dei Prep students, as well as effective leadership skills in challenging global environments, according to the press release.

Students from Global Leaders are invited by The United Nations to speak at The High-Level Forum on The Culture of Peace Initiative sponsored by UN NGO Pathways to Peace on Sept. 13 and 14.

Students will also attend the International Day of Peace Conference on Sept. 20. This conference will be attended by Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Dr. Jane Goodall, as well as other UN Messengers of Peace, according to the press release. 

Mater Dei Prep Students will serve as Flag Bearers during the Peace Bell Ceremony in The United Nations Rose Garden before the Conference. 

Mater Dei Prep Alumni Kaitlin Grano, who graduated in 2018, is continuing her work with the UN. She was awarded the position as Youth Chairperson for the United Nations Global Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah this past month.
