East Windsor Township residents who want to clean out their files and shred personal papers can do so at the township’s Document Shredding and Recycling Day, which is set for Sept. 21 at the East Windsor Township Senior Center.
The free event, which is limited to East Windsor Township residents, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the senior citizens center, which is located at 40 Lanning Boulevard, off Princeton-Hightstown Road (Route 571).
East Windsor Township residents can bring up to 10 boxes of documents to be shredded, allowing them to dispose of unwanted and unneeded documents, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said. No commercial entities are permitted – just residents.
“This is a great opportunity for East Windsor residents to dispose of old or confidential documents in a secure manner,” Mayor Mironov said.
Document shredding provides a non-recoverable tool that provides confidentiality and helps to prevent identity theft, she said.
But document shredding is only one part of the event.
East Windsor Township residents can bring used computers and computer equipment for disposal in a “green” manner, Mayor Mironov explained. This includes desktop or laptop computers, as well as monitors, printers, scanners and keyboards.
Residents can also drop off computer mice, speakers, cords and cables, ink and toner cartridges and software, she said.
Residents can also bring hard drives – external and internal – but they are responsible for removing data from hard drives and other storage media before donating them, Mayor Mironov said.
Cell phones and fluorescent light bulbs will be accepted for recycling. The East Windsor Lions Club will be there to accept used eyeglasses, which are cleaned and distributed to those in need.
RISE will be on hand to collect clothing, shoes, blankets, housewares – plates, mugs and the like – and working appliances, the mayor said.
Household electronics and usable furniture also will be accepted by RISE. Clothing to be donated should be brought in plastic bags.
“We are committed to recycling in East Windsor Township, reducing the township’s solid waste (trash) costs while also helping to preserve a greener environment,” Mayor Mironov said.
Recycling Day also presents “an environmentally positive and convenient opportunity for residents to dispose of unneeded items at no cost,” Mayor Mironov said. It also helps to support area groups and their efforts, she added.
Document and Recycling Day is being sponsored by Mayor Mironov and the East Windsor Township Council in collaboration with the East Windsor Clean Communities Committee.
