Edison police arrest murder parolee for possession of illegal loaded handgun

EDISON – A Jersey City man, who was paroled last year after serving five years in prison for a 2013 murder in Hudson County, is facing additional time after he was allegedly found in possession of an illegal loaded handgun and drugs after a traffic stop, according to police.

Police Officer Richard Lorfing pulled over a black Nissan Maxima at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 for driving erratically on Route 1 between Wooding Avenue and Old Post Road. The now 25-year-old man was the passenger in the vehicle, Lt. Robert Dudash said.

Lorfing and Officer Michael Piperato allegedly found a loaded Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun, numerous wax folds of heroin and more than $500 in cash police believe are proceeds from drug sales, inside the car, according to reports. Officers also allegedly found more wax folds of heroin hidden in one of the Jersey City man’s boots, police said.

The murder parolee was taken to the Middlesex County Correction Center in North Brunswick on charges of weapon possession, possession and distribution of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

The Nissan’s driver, a 20-year-old Woodbridge woman, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, and other motor vehicle violations. She was released into her mother’s custody and is to appear in Edison Municipal Court later this month, police said.
