Jackson man killed in fatal car crash on Route 9

OLD BRIDGE – Ahead of the Labor Day weekend, a 43-year-old Jackson man was killed in a car crash on Route 9 in Old Bridge, which the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed.

But very little else has been released. A general alert at 6:43 a.m. on Aug. 29 through the township’s CodeRED emergency notification system stated there was a “serious crash on (Route) 9 and (Route) 516. Avoid the area. Plan alternate route.”

Another general alert at 11:40 a.m. later in the morning alerted “Route 9 is now open. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”

A GoFund me Memorial Page was sent up for Mike Panariello. Friends say the man was on his way to work as a supervisor for ConEdison Company in Manhattan when the fatal car crash occurred.

A funeral service was held for Panariello on Sept. 4 in Jackson. He was predeceased by his mother, Laura Panariello. Michael is survived by his wife of 14 years, Holly Panariello; his sons, Logan and Raymond Panariello; his daughter, Lilyana Panariello; his father, Agostino Panariello; his brother Anthony Panariello and his wife, Kelley; and by his sister, Lori Ann Cesaro, according to his obituary.

The fatal incident on Route 9 is the third fatal car crash in the township since May.

Authorities have said in the early morning hours of July 6, a 23-year-old Old Bridge man, Tristan R. Rodriguez, was allegedly driving while intoxicated when he became involved in a motor vehicle collision that killed two female passengers – Krystal C. Diaz, 29, of Old Bridge, and Sarah Hope Aziz, 17, of Old Bridge – in separate vehicles and injured another driver, a 20-year-old male from Old Bridge.

The July 6 collision came on the heels of a crash on May 25 which claimed the life of Aliza Akhtar, 19, who was home on college break from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Akhtar’s 15-year-old sister was injured in the collision, according to police.

On June 10, Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 28, was charged with one count of aggravated manslaughter in the first degree and one count of assault by auto in the third degree after it was determined the 15-year-old sustained serious bodily injury, authorities said.
