FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – A new Class III special law enforcement officer has been hired by the Township Committee and will be assigned to duty in Freehold Township’s schools.
On Sept. 3, committee members appointed Salvatore Siino as a Class III officer with the Freehold Township Police Department on the recommendation of Police Chief Ernest Schriefer. The appointment runs through Dec. 31.
According to a resolution, Class III officers are authorized to exercise full powers and duties similar to those of full-time police officers while providing security at Freehold Township schools during the hours the schools are normally in session or when they are occupied by students or teachers.
While on duty in his jurisdiction, a Class III officer may respond to offenses or emergencies off school grounds if they occur in the officer’s presence while traveling to a school, but an officer may not otherwise be dispatched or dedicated to any assignment off a school property owned by the township.
Freehold Township has nine public schools: the Early Childhood Learning Center, C. Richard Applegate Elementary School, Joseph J. Catena Elementary School, Laura Donovan Elementary School, Marshall W. Errickson Elementary School, West Freehold Elementary School, Clifton T. Barkalow Middle School and Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School, which comprise the Freehold Township K-8 School District, and Freehold Township High School, which is part of the Freehold Regional High School District.
In other business, members of the governing body appointed Cody Brooke to the Historic Preservation Committee.
And, the committee awarded a $343,000 contract to A.C. Shultes Inc. for improvements to Well No. 14 and Well No. 15 at the Jackson Mills Road Water Treatment Plant.
According to a resolution, the contract was awarded to A.C. Shultes on the recommendation of Mott MacDonald, the township’s engineer, and Superintendent of Utilities Robert Koches as the lowest bidder. A second bid in the amount of $428,990 was received from Municipal Maintenance Company Inc.
Committee members awarded a $54,600 contract to Breaker Electric Inc. for automatic transfer switch replacement at the Jackson Mills Road Water Treatment Plant. Other bids were submitted by Bricktown Electrical Contractors ($57,800), Electrical Installation & Construction ($59,299) and EDC Electric ($89,800).
The governing body authorized the submission of a grant application and the execution of a grant contract with the New Jersey Department of Transportation for the first phase of the Stonehurst Boulevard road preservation project.
