Hillsborough local business to hold anniversary event

Sunnyside Gifts of Hillsborough recently announced that it will be the host to a special event this weekend.

On Sept. 21–22, Sunnyside Gifts is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary with a “family-friendly” event in Hillsborough. According to a statement from the location, a prize wheel, refreshments, snacks and more are to be provided.

Sunnyside Gifts partnered with local nonprofit, Step Together, whose mission is to support families facing a medical crisis. The location will donate 50% of the proceeds during the celebration event, according to the released statement.

The location’s owners, Shannon and David Winters, opened their first brick and mortar location in their hometown, last year. Their intended mission is to offer the community positivity, “good vibes,” inspiration and a dose of fun as a retailer of gifts of all kinds on the “sunny side of life.”

From pop culture collectibles, metaphysical gifts, bath and body care, home décor, global fair trade handcrafted gifts and more, Sunnyside features unique items from artisans in addition to retail brands, according to the owners.

In its first year of operation, the location’s owners said that “Gifts That Give Back” donations and fundraisers supported more than 30 organizations in the local community, including the Hillsborough Music Festival (co-sponsored by the Allegra School of Music and Arts); the Hillsborough School District HSAs; and other local schools, animal rescue and sports/dance groups.

As a surprise for teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week in April, Sunnyside Gifts said that they invited Hillsborough School District teachers to come in to thank them for what they do and gave each a gift bag filled with free items. Sunnyside officials also said they currently making plans for the 2020 “Teacher Appreciation Week” celebration, as well.

“We’re all about spreading good vibes and positivity, especially when we hear so much each day about what’s wrong in the world,” Shannon Winters said in a statement. “To have someone walk in the shop for the first time and feel the good energy is such a joy.”

“We are so grateful for all of our community and friends who’ve supported Sunnyside this last year and look forward to even more fun in year two,” Dave Winters said in a statement.

Sunnyside Gifts’ festivities are starting early online on Sept. 19 at www.sunnyside.gifts. Sunnyside Gifts is located at 381 Triangle Road, Hillsborough, in the Triangle Center.
