It was a busy weekend on the pitch for the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association. A slew of boys’ and girls’ teams played games on Sept. 21 and 22.
The results and recaps are below.
D2 Girls
Sept. 21
On Saturday, the HVSA Red girls lost to the Hopewell Express, 4-1. Hopewell Express quickly scored two goals, but the HVSA Red girls fought back during the second half with strong defense by Isabel Trupin, Leila Arbanas and Barrett Upson. All players on the team continued challenging and consistently going after the ball, which paid off with an amazing goal by Mya Loufti. The Hopewell Express was led by three goals from Reagan Silvestri and stellar defense by Abby Gola and Grace Haag.
Jack’s Nursery defeated the m3 team 4-1. Emily Simpson scored two goals on penalty kicks, and Daphne Edmond-Marrietti added two more goals for the Jack’s Nursery team. Eleanor Carlton hustled all game long and played great defense.
Sept. 22
On Sunday, the HVSA Red team did what they do best to overcome a one goal deficit to the m3 team. Anchoring the midfield were the always dependable Lola Caruso, Isabella Miller and Lena Wijaya. On an incredible full-field run, Barrett Upson dribbled past three opponents until being tripped inside the box. The penalty shot tied the game at 1-1 just as the game was ending.
Jack’s Nursery pulled off the upset against a short handed Hopewell Express squad 4-2. Emily Simpson notched another two goal game. Maggie Woodside scored and Sadie Courtney put in the insurance score in the fourth quarter. Sasha Heimann was a defensive stalwart all game long. The Hopewell Express team played hard with two goals by Reagan Silvestri and stellar goalkeeping by Sloane Ritter.
HVSA D2 Boys
Sept. 21
The D2 Boys Carnegie Cat Clinic won its Saturday game against Horvath & Giacin, 5-0.
John Troiano scored the first goal with assistance from Jackson Mooney, Robert Litz and Austin Yasher. Taegan Levy scored the second goal, and Jeremy English the third to give the Cats a 3-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, Nathan Blunt used some great footwork to get a few great steals. Braiden Kelley scored a fourth goal. Liam Mazur played great offense. John Troiano scored his second goal, placing the final at 5-0.
Sept. 22
The D2 Boys Carnegie Cat Clinic won 2-0 on Sunday against HVSA Orange. In the first quarter, Jeremy English scored the first goal, with Austin Yasher, John Troiano and Bodhi Brown playing some incredible offense. Goalies Taegan Levy and Braiden Kelley did a great job protecting the goal.
In the second half, the Cats stayed persistent, with Bodhi Brown scoring the second and last goal of the game with an assist from John Troiano. Liam Mazur, Robert Litz, Jeremy English and Bodhi Brown played great defense in the second half, protecting HVSA from scoring.
HVSA D3 Boys
Sept. 22
On an unseasonably hot September afternoon, Capital Health and Pennington Pizza Grill put it all on the field with the final result being a 1-1 tie. The lone goal for Capital Health was scored on a penalty kick by Jeff Blake in the first half. Adam Rise was solid in goal throughout the game, holding the opponent to just one goal. There was consistent offensive pressure by Luke Hemmer and by Jason Laliwala, and Jack Elliott and Jason Donis-Yuman played strong defense for nearly the entire first half.
HVSA D2 Boys
Sept. 21
The HVSA Division 2 Boys Horvath & Giacin “White Lightning” had an eventful third week of play. On Saturday they faced Carnegie Cat Clinic. Despite strong defensive play from Charlie Rogers and Ethan Bilotta, and a handful of crosses and near-misses from Michael Widener and Chance Hutnik, the Lightning were no match for the Clinic’s keen positioning and tight passing, falling, 6-0.
Sept. 22
On a scorching last day of summer, the Lightning faced off against Dr. McDonough’s Live Wires. There were flashes of brilliant offensive play by Isaac Lamontagne, dogged determination from Cole Tracy-Enderle and Collin Levesque, and strong goalkeeping by Widener, Rogers and Nate Heiss. Hutnik and Bodhi Lamontagne each scored unopposed, while a scramble in front of the net including Widener, Hutnik and Sterling Desmond resulted in a third goal. The game closed on a tie, 3-3.
