The Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS) is the new online application process for obtaining firearms I.D. cards and handgun permits. All applications must be submitted at njportal.com/NJSP/fars.

The East Brunswick Police Department ORI to be used by East Brunswick residents when completing the online application is NJ0120400. First-time applicants must be fingerprinted.

During the FARS process, the applicant will be prompted to print the IdentoGO form to arrange for fingerprinting. FARS requires the applicant to provide an email address and phone number of two reputable references. References will receive a questionnaire via email. References must complete the questionnaire immediately in order to process your background investigation. Incorrect email addresses submitted as part of your application or failure to respond to the questionnaire will cause a delay in your application.

After completing the online application, applicants must respond to the East Brunswick Records Bureau to pay for the Initial Firearms Identification Card (FID) and/or pistol purchase permits. Applications will not be processed until fee(s) are paid in full. Payments by cash, check or money order must be made in person during normal business hours.

Applicants must bring all of the following: payment, valid driver’s license and/or photo ID. If the application is completed and approved, the applicant will be contacted and advised to pick up their FID card and/or permit(s).
