MARLBORO – The three candidates who were selected by Republican voters in Marlboro in June to run for municipal office on Nov. 5 are all out of the race.
In the June primary election, Republicans tapped Derek DeLuca to run for mayor and Marielaina LaRosa and Marianne Longobardi to run for seats on the Marlboro Township Council.
All three primary winners were former candidates on the municipal level. Longobardi ran for a council seat in 2011, LaRosa ran for a council seat in 2013 and DeLuca ran for a council seat in 2017.
However, a list of candidates provided by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office on Sept. 13 indicates the only Republican who will be listed on the Marlboro municipal ballot on Election Day will be Alan Ginsburg, who is running for a seat on the council.
Asked about the changes on the GOP ticket on Sept. 19, DeLuca said he dropped out of the race for reasons related to his employment. He said LaRosa has moved out of Marlboro and Longobardi dropped out for personal reasons. He confirmed that Ginsburg is running for a council seat.
The upheaval on the GOP ticket means Democrat Jonathan Hornik is now running unopposed for a fourth four-year term as Marlboro’s mayor.
Democrats Randi Marder and Michael Scalea are running for two four-year seats on the Township Council. Marder has served on the council since 2008 and Scalea has served on the council since 2015.
