Registration is open for the 2019-20 Metuchen Grapplers wrestling program.
Students must be in grades 2-8 and reside in Metuchen or North Edison in the 08820 zip code.
Practice starts on Nov. 12 in the Metuchen High School wrestling room. Beginning in December, wrestlers will participate in a series of dual meets and tournaments.
Registration is $99 per wrestler, but scholarships are available. All registrants will receive a hooded sweatshirt, a t-shirt and shorts.
A pre-team clinic is also available for students in grades K-2. The clinic will cost $35 per wrestler and meets on Wednesday nights for one hour at Metuchen High School, starting Dec. 4 and ending Jan. 30. All participants will get a Grapplers t-shirt.

A Senior Sukkot luncheon with musical entertainment will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 17 at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison.

“The Joy of Backyard Bird Feeding” is the topic of the Garden Club of Metuchen’s Oct. 7 meeting.

Princeton Ballet School, the official school of American Repertory Ballet, is offering Bharatanatyam dance classes through its Dances of the World program.
The class will be taught from 12:15-1:15 p.m. on Wednesdays in three sessions from Oct. 16-30 at the school’s Princeton studio, 301 N. Harrison St.
The classes will be taught by Supriya Hariprasad, an award-winning dancer and teacher of the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam.
Classes are intended for students age 13 and older.

The Child Care Services Branch of the YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy is holding its 11th annual Tot Trot & Fall Festival on Oct. 13, rain or shine, at Metuchen High School, 400 Grove Ave., Metuchen.
The charity event helps the Y support families from the community by providing scholarship assistance to those unable to pay the full cost of child care. The fund also provides aid to families in crisis and allows us to temporarily provide tuition assistance in the event of a family emergency.
Families with children from crawlers to 12 years old are invited to join the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will be vendors and activities prior to the races including games, crafts, a bounce house, face painting and tattoos. Vendors and food trucks will be on site.

The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy (MEWSA) launched a new program, “Healthy Weight & Your Child,” an evidence-based program for children carrying excess weight.
Based on a grant from Y-USA, this program is offered at no charge and includes 25 sessions delivered over four months. The program empowers 7-13-year-olds with the support of their families, to reach a healthy weight and live a healthier lifestyle. A parent/caregiver must attend all sessions. One adult YMCA membership is also included with the program.
Other qualifications to participate in the program include receiving clearance from a healthcare provider or school nurse to participate in physical activity.
The program is slated to begin in mid-October and will consist of two hour-and-a-half sessions per week. The sessions will include 45 minutes of workshops, nutritional education and/or guest speakers, followed by 45 minutes of physical activity.

The Metuchen Arts Council has teamed with five professional galleries in Metuchen for a self-guided gallery walking tour and fine arts fair from 2-6 p.m. on Oct. 13. The Gallery Walk is free and open to the public, and will be held rain or shine.
Each gallery will feature a curated show, refreshments and live music. Participants can start the tour at any point. Maps and program information will be available at each location.
The Rotunda Gallery is in Metuchen’s Borough Hall on the corner of Main Street and Middlesex Avenue. Featured will be the “Made in New Jersey” exhibit of Margaret Marzullo’s landscape paintings of scenic areas of New Jersey. Guitarist Joseph Frame will be featured.
The Library Gallery at 480 Middlesex Ave. features a collection of paintings and drawings of artist/illustrator Ray Skibinski. The exhibit, entitled “In Nature’s Realm,” features Skibinski’s art in several media and exemplifies his love of nature through landscapes and portraiture.
Transformations Gallery in the historic Old Franklin Schoolhouse at 490 Middlesex Ave. will offer an exhibit titled “Hope.” Featured musician will be singer/songwriter Kim Boyko.
Metuchen’s newest gallery, the Galerie Westerhoff, at 5 Calvin Pl., will feature their inaugural show, “Dark, Dark, Dark Looms the Canopy of Clouds,” an exhibition of paintings and drawings by the Westerhoff School’s own art teachers, that celebrate the correlations between art and music and connections to the cycles of nature. The exhibition takes its name from a 20th century rain song by Dinkar Kaikini.
Nails in the Wall Gallery at St. Luke’s Church will feature a juried collection of fine art by artists with physical or mental disabilities titled “Wonderfully Made.” Using Psalm 139:14 as an inspiration, which says, “I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” the artwork expresses a range of life experiences and emotions of 14 artists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Canada, England and Sweden.
St. Luke’s is also the site for a fine art sale featuring 14 well-known local and regional artists whose work has been accepted by the Gallery Walk selection committee. Gallery Walk patrons will have a chance to shop for some fine art, have some refreshments and listen to the music of Enrique Zaldivar, who is one of the featured vendor artists.
La Rosa Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant will donate 10% of all proceeds to the Metuchen High School Scholarship Fund from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the restaurant, 355 Lake Ave., Metuchen.
