The Bordentown community is planned to serve as the host to its first annual art show next week, which will feature and support the works of local artists.

The event, which is scheduled for Oct. 13, will be held from 1–4 p.m. at the Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community Church at 39 Park St.

The art show was coordinated by Bordentown resident Mary Ann Kieffer who teamed up with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) for the event.

Kieffer said that she has served as a tutor in TASK’s Arts Program, which aims to offer one-on-one lessons in the craft as part of its A-Team Artists group.

According to the A-Team’s website, the group was founded in 2001 by multiple visual artists who used the services of TASK and had participated for several years in its “extra” art program. Its inception idea was to offer all TASK patrons with talent and an interest in art an environment to use their creative abilities and potentially sell their artwork.

Kieffer explained that the October event will feature the works of TASK’s A-Team members such as Paul Norris and Carol Johnson.

In preparation for the program’s first art show, she said she anticipates it to become an annual event in Bordentown.

“TASK has terrific art program,” Kieffer said. “[The art show] is going to introduce the community to neighborhood artists. It’s a ‘diamond in the rough’ sort of thing. You never know where talent lies. You could be introduced to talent you may have never expected to see before.”

Kieffer said that the art show will offer a light lunch provided by the local businesses of the Downtown Bordentown Association as well as a “Meet the Artists” session when attendees will have the chance to meet and discuss the works on display with local artists.

“People are invited to attend, purchase the artwork and listen to the artists discuss their work,” Kieffer said.

There is a $5 entrance fee for the event, but youth admission is free of charge. To learn more about the A-Team Artists of TASK, visit www.ateamartists.com.
