The American Jewish Experience Lecture Series, presented by the Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey, continues for its 22nd consecutive year with a presentation by Dr. Marcia Midler, entitled “Gertrude Berg: Broadcasting Pioneer/Creator of Molly Goldberg: the Original Jewish Mother.”

The lecture will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 29 at Jewish Family Services, 52 Concordia Shopping Center, Monroe.

The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission will be the host its annual Juried Art Show in October at the Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.

The exhibit is open to living artists of all ages and works in all media will be considered. Entry submission is from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 13, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 with a $10 non-refundable fee.

David Anderson, president of the Princeton Photography Club, will be the juror.

An opening reception, by invitation only, will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Oct. 20. The show will be open to the public from Oct. 21-27.

A Fall Freecycling Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road.

Items may be dropped off until 1 p.m. Browsing concludes at 2 p.m.

A semi-annual event, Freecyling Day offers area residents an opportunity to discard usable, unwanted household items in an environmentally-friendly way. After dropping off their items, they can also hunt for “finds” from small furniture and housewares to toys and tools.

There is no charge to participate in this “free trade” event. All items must be offered for free, for personal use and not for resale.

Recommended freecycling items include clothing, shoes, bicycles, fish tanks, dishes, pots and pans, toys, silverware, small appliances, tools, power tools, kitchen items, garage items, electronics and pet supplies. Large furniture pieces will not be accepted. It is recommended that boxed toys, games and anything with small parts be taped shut.

Prohibited items include mattresses, televisions, computer monitors, paints, VHS tapes, computer disks, paints, pesticides, tires, toiletries, unframed mirrors, food or any hazardous materials.

The Friends of EBEC reserves the right to reject items.

The East Brunswick Woman’s Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at East Brunswick Fire District 1, Civic Center Station, 310 Rues Lane, East Brunswick.

Following the meeting agenda, speaker Susan Luczu, dressed in 18th Century costume, will share the history of Life in the 18th Century – Home and Hearth.

The Suburban Artist Guild will meet at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the East Brunswick Library, Civic Center Drive off Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.

Artist Joanne Amantea creates unusual mixed media artwork. She uses collage for the basic structure and then adds layers with additional paper, paint and ink.

The East Brunswick Public Library and the East Brunswick Arts Commission will offer a multicultural dance workshop series at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road.

The series begins on Oct. 13 as the Ballroom Dream Dance Studio presents a dance workshop on Bachata for ages 18 and up.

East Brunswick choreographer Phil Solomon leads a hip hop dance class on Nov. 10 for ages eight and up.

The series ends on Nov. 17 with an Israeli dance workshop. Led by Vera Galleid, the program shares circle, line and partner dances set to Israeli music, for ages eight and up.

All three dance workshops start at 12:30 p.m. These programs are free and open to the public.

The fall dance series is sponsored by the Friends of the East Brunswick Library and the East Brunswick Arts Commission.

East Brunswick Elks Lodge 2370 will hold Designer Bag Bingo on Oct. 12 at the lodge, 21 Oakmont Ave., East Brunswick.

Doors open at noon. Calling begins at 2 p.m. sharp.

Tickets are $35 for 10 games of bingo. Additional cards can be purchased at the event.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Guests may bring their own snacks, such as chips, pretzels and cookies.

Learn about medical marijuana, its benefits, its use and the law, presented by medical oncologist Dr. James C. Salwitz, from 7-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the East Brunswick Library, Civic Center Dr., East Brunswick.

Learn about the New Jersey cannabis law, indications for medical marijuana, if marijuana is addictive, the status of research of cannabis, how to administer medical marijuana, and if marijuana can cure cancer.

Aldersgate United Methodist Church will hold an indoor yard sale and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the church, 568 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick.

There will be a variety of household items, clothes, toys, gifts and crafts for sale, new and gently used.

There will also be a pumpkin patch.

Middlesex County invites all of Monroe’s adult communities to participate in the Fall Harvest Food Drive. The initiative is a coordinated effort among Middlesex County, MCFOODS (Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services), the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA), Feeding Middlesex County, and the Monroe Township Department of Public Works.

Items will be collected by the Monroe Department of Public Works on Oct. 21. Place nonperishable donations in a bag or box near your mailbox. The Monroe DPW will pick up your items between and 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The most needed items include canned chicken, cereal, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, canned pasta, low sodium vegetables, low sugar fruits, diapers and wipes, low sodium stew, granola bars, rice, pasta, dry beans, paper products, soap, shampoo and toothpaste.

All items should be canned and packaged goods only. No glass items will be accepted.

Monetary donations will be accepted in the form of a check payable to Feeding Middlesex County and mailed to P.O. Box 781, Edison 08818.

The Holy Name Society and Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church will hold a fundraising dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the parish center, 30 Jackson St., South River.
Take out dinners will be available from 4 p.m.
The menu will include pierogi, stuffed cabbage, sauerkraut, kielbasa, rye bread, coffee, tea and dessert.

The East Brunswick Friends of the Library will hold a Designer Handbag Bingo fundraiser on Oct. 18 at the East Brunswick Library, 2 Civic Center Dr.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. First game will be called at 7:30 p.m.

All tickets include three bingo boards and light refreshments. Additional bingo boards can be purchased at the event.

“A Christmas Carol” will be Dec. 13-22.

“The Mystery of Edwin Drood” will be Feb. 7-23.

“Camelot” will be June 12-28.

All performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets for the main stage are $22 for adults or $20 for seniors and students.
