Dinner at Baird House was enjoyable event

My wife and I and friends had a wonderful evening on Sept. 21 at the Baird House where a gourmet dinner hosted by the Millstone Township Agriculture and Farmland Committee was served.

All of the members and volunteers were extremely gracious, friendly and thankful for the large turnout. Those of us in Millstone are truly blessed to have volunteer organizations such as this in our community.

The dinner was prepared on-site by a gourmet chef from the Harvest Moon restaurant in New Brunswick. Wine was donated by Laurita Winery. All of the vegetables and herbs were donated by local farms.

We started out with an array of appetizers ranging from marinated peach halves stuffed with crab meat, sushi grade tuna with herbs served on toast, heirloom tomato brochette, shrimp cocktail, and more.

This was followed by a delicious pumpkin spice and apple cream soup.

Entrees were a choice of grilled to order beef tenderloin surrounded with a corn relish and roasted potatoes. Vegetarians had a large cauliflower wedge, marinated and grilled, and served with a wine reduction sauce.

All of this was washed down with Laurita wines. Dessert topped off the dinner with homemade apple pie and ice cream.

All of this took place in the ambiance of an historic barn dating back to the early 1800s that was originally located on Stagecoach Road. The wood peg constructed barn (no nails) was carefully dismantled a number of years ago by committee members, moved piece by piece and reconstructed at the Baird Road site.

All in all, my wife and I and friends had a fabulous five-star dinner in an authentic original colonial barn in a gracious ambiance and got an education as well. Thank you Agriculture and Farmland Committee.
