NBTHS students receive accolades from National Merit Scholarship Program

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Seven students from North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) have been named Commended Students and three students have advanced to Semi-Finalist status in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to the scholastically talented seniors, according to information provided by the Guidance Department.

As a point of reference, about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), according to the statement.

The semifinalists at NBTHS represent the top 16,000 scorers in the same competition; they will now go through the application process to compete for National Merit Scholarships.

The Commended Students at NBTHS are Nithyasree Balaji, Tanya Bonde, Varun Chari, Jeffrey Eng, Jasmine J. Flanders, Aymen Kabel and Param Sengar.

The semifinalists are Sidharth Bejugama, Kunal Jha and Rima Peddi.
