To the Editor:

I write to thank Emily West and her team at the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley for hosting John Sullivan on Sept. 14. Mr. Sullivan’s workshop was not only informative but thought-provoking.

As a former multi-sport and D1 athlete, I have been alarmed by the changed landscape of youth sports with its increased focus in early specialization. For parents, navigating this shift is challenging, as we strive to balance our children’s best interest and family well-being with the realities of year-long travel sport commitments. Mr. Sullivan’s workshop started an important conversation in our community, while at the same time reminding parents and coaches alike of the most important value kids derive from sports: JOY.

Well done.
