FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Emergency repairs in the Freehold Township Police Department and Justice Building that houses the municipal court have been authorized by the Township Committee.
The Justice Building is located behind Town Hall at the municipal complex.
During a recent meeting, committee members authorized the award of a contract for emergency repairs to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at the police department to Carrier Corporation. The contract totaled $15,976, according to a resolution.
The resolution states the repairs were needed because there was a lack of air conditioning in the building and that situation was affecting the health and safety of members of the public and municipal employees.
Township Administrator Peter Valesi said the HVAC system failed on Aug. 29 and officials ran the system on one compressor until it was fully repaired on Sept. 13. The repairs were authorized by the governing body on Sept. 17.
“It’s a chilled water system, so it didn’t get brutally hot, but you could feel it upstairs, I’m told,” Valesi said.
In other business, the committee authorized the awarding of a $39,695 contract to Shore Top Construction Corporation for improvements to the bicycle path at Opatut Park, East Freehold Road.
And, the Township Committee awarded a one-year $55,000 contract to Jungle Lasers for the implementation and maintenance of Geo 3.0, which is software designed for municipalities, for various departments and the fire bureau.
Jungle Lasers is the developer of Geo 3.0. According to the company, the software provides information about a department, including schedules, inspections, employee records, tasks, parcels and current work. Geo 3.0 may be used by the public works, recreation, vital statistics, zoning, code enforcement, construction, fire safety and health departments.
Finally, committee members awarded a contract for an amount not to exceed $30,000 for catering services for the Freehold Township Senior Center and for events sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. The one-year contract was awarded to Romeo’s Bros. Enterprises.
