South River police will accept applications for open officer position on Oct. 15

The South River Police Department will start accepting preliminary applications for the position of police officer on Oct. 15.

Applications may be picked up at the South River Police Department Records Bureau between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. located at 61 Main St.

All applicants must be able to successfully pass a written examination, physical agility examination, oral examination, medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation.

Minimum Employment Requirements include: 

  • United States citizen 
  • A resident of New Jersey 
  • Minimum 21 years of age and not over 35 years of age
  • Possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License 
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

A $100 non-refundable registration fee will be charged to all applicants. Money order payable to Borough of South River for $100. No cash or checks will be accepted.

Applicants will also be required to provide a photocopy of their valid New Jersey driver’s license and a recent passport-sized photo (2 x 2 3/4 inches).

All phases of the hiring process will occur during the holiday season with the written examination scheduled for Dec. 3.

The closing date for applications is at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15.
