The Hopewell Valley Soccer Association is in the heart of its regular season on both the boys’ and girls’ sides.
This past weekend, of Oct. 12 and 13, was yet another busy one for the HVSA clubs. But the weekend before this past one, of Oct. 5 and 6, was also a busy one.
Most of the results from Oct. 5 and 6 were featured last week, but a couple were not. They are recapped below, along with descriptions of the games from Oct. 12 and 13. There is also a game from Oct. 8 featured below.
HVSA Division 2 Girls
Oct. 5
The Hopewell Valley Express prevailed 3-0 over team Jack’s Nursery behind goals from Abby Gola, Megan Kurian and Reagan Silvestri and standout defense by Grace Haag, Abby Gola and Merriam Wood.
Sasha Heimann was everywhere all game long in a valiant effort for Jack’s Nursery.
Oct. 6
Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery visited Hamilton to play the Hamilton Warriors Tuesday night under the lights.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead after the ball careened off the goalie’s hands and was followed up nicely by the Warriors to put in the back of the goal.
Hopewell came back to tie with a nice rocket by Evie Lansing from outside the box, and then followed that up with a second goal to take the lead.
Hamilton tied the game at halftime on a well-placed kick to the lower right corner of the goal.
Coming out of halftime, both teams moved the ball around attempting to find the open shot, but the defense and keepers for both teams played extremely well. The winning score came off the foot of Sierra Mitchell when she broke free with the ball after a throw in, ending the game 3-2 in favor of Jack’s Nursery.
HVSA Division 3 Boys
Oct. 12
On Saturday, Capital traveled to Ewing and defeated Ewing Red by a score of 6-0.
The defense was dominant, led by Adam Rise and Luke Hemmer in goal, with support from Jason Donis-Yuman, Aaron Nulman, Ben Lang and Graham Carter.
Many contributed on offense with consistent play and goals from Jason Laliwala, Jack Elliott, Gavin Catlett, Jeff Blake and Darius Roman.
Oct. 13
On Sunday, Dick’s Sporting Goods defeated Capital Health by a score of 4-2 in a well-played game.
Leading the scoring for Dick’s Sporting Goods was Josh Kohlhepp with multiple goals, and leading the scoring for Capital Health was Jeff Blake with two goals.
Both teams had consistent offensive pressure and many scoring opportunities due to solid teamwork.
HVSA Division 2 Boys
Oct. 12
The Carnegie Cat Clinic D2 boys won their game on Saturday 4-2 against the McDonough Live Wires. In the first half, John Troiano scored the Cats’ first goal, bringing the score to 1-0. Taegan Levy in goal did a great job keeping the Live Wires from scoring in the first half, with Julian Blunt, Braiden Kelley, Robert Litz and Liam Mazur helping on defense.
In the second half, Bodhi Brown, John Troiano, Nathan Blunt and Taegan Levy played intense offense, keeping pressure on the other team. The last quarter of the game was an exciting one with Bodhi Brown scoring the Cats’ second goal, bringing the score to 2-1. John Troiano scored the third goal and Bodhi Brown the fourth, bringing the Cats to a 4-2 victory.
Oct. 13
The Carnegie Cat Clinic tied its game 2-2 against Hovarth & Giacin on Sunday.
Bodhi Brown, John Troiano, Nathan Blunt, Julian Blunt and Jackson Mooney played great offense and midfield with Liam Mazur, Braiden Kelley and Robert Litz defending. Taegan Levy and Bodhi Brown both had their turns as goalie, keeping the other team to a single score before the half.
In the second half, Julian Blunt scored the Cats’ first goal, bringing the score to 1-1. Soon after, Bodhi Brown scored their second goal with John Troiano assisting.
