Lawrence Twp. Police Dept. investigating racially biased incident from Oct. 18 high school football game

An alleged bias incident that occurred at the Lawrence High School football game on Oct. 18 is being investigated by the Lawrence Township Police Department.

Racially derogatory names were being used toward black spectators during Lawrence’s home football game against Steinert High School on Oct. 18. Someone allegedly urinated on one person during the altercation, while using derogatory and racist terms, police said.

School district officials are working with the Lawrence Township Police Department to investigate the incident, said Superintendent of Schools Ross Kasun.

“We have been made aware of allegations about an incident that may have occurred (at the Oct. 18 football game). We take these sorts of allegations very seriously,” Kasun said.

The Lawrence Township Police Department also takes those incidents seriously and will continue to investigate until all of the facts are uncovered, police said.

Police added that such behavior will not be tolerated in Lawrence Township.
