Millstone resident announces bid for school board as write-in candidate

MILLSTONE – A Millstone Township resident has announced she is running for a seat on the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education as a write-in candidate in the Nov. 5 election.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The school board terms currently held by David DePinho, Sal Casale and Kevin McGovern will expire at the end of the year. They are not seeking re-election and no other residents filed to run for the three available three-year terms.

In the past week, resident Shannon Pulaski announced her write-in candidacy through an online page. Pulaski is an attorney who has lived in the township for more than 20 years and has three children attending the district.

“I am invested in creating quality education for our children. With recent changes in state funding for our schools, most notably the loss of almost $500,000 in state aid in the past two years, and the recent discussions concerning the consolidation of school districts in New Jersey, our board has challenges ahead.

“I would work to ensure our community’s voice is heard in these discussions concerning our school budget, consolidation, and effectively prioritizing our children’s educational needs.

“Over the years, I have served my community through my law practice and extensive volunteer service. I am an active PTO volunteer. … I regularly visit our local organizations, Girl Scout troops and classrooms as a speaker for health education initiatives.

“Through these various roles, I have connected with the community and understand what matters most. I grew up in Millstone and understand the values and traditions that make Millstone the unique and dynamic community it is.

“It would be a great privilege to serve on the board and participate in cultivating the next generation of Millstone Eagles,” Pulaski said.

If the three available seats on the school board are not filled by write-in candidates, they will be filled by appointment.
