WOODBRIDGE – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is continuing to investigate the recent fatal construction accident at a residential townhouse on Quincy Court in the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge.
The Woodbridge Police Department were notified of the electrocution incident at 7:53 a.m. on Oct. 11 at the redevelopment construction project site, which left one worker dead, one in critical condition and a third worker injured. A sub-contractor siding company was erecting scaffolding, police said.
One worker was on the roof with rope attempting to maneuver the scaffolding pole into place, when the worker lost control of the rope due to wind, according to reports.
The pole fell and hit a 220-volt PSEG high tension wire, according to police.
This caused three workers on the ground to become electrocuted, police said.
Woodbridge police and Emergency Medical Services conducted resuscitation efforts at 8:02 a.m. The two workers were transported to Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) University Hospital at 8:31 a.m., police said.
One worker was reported deceased at RWJ and the second worker was listed in critical condition. A third worker was transported to Perth Amboy Medical Center with non-life threatening electrocution burns, police said.
Woodbridge police notified OSHA and the township Office of Emergency Management.
The construction project was in compliance with all permits and had no violations, police said.
