Division 4 Girls Rec League

Week Five

Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery visited Hamilton for a rematch against the Hamilton Warriors Thursday night, as the Warriors looked to get revenge from the previous matchup.

However, Hopewell jumped out to an early two goal lead after Carly Brant scored first, followed by Evie Lansing. Hopewell’s defense, comprised of Lucy Antal, Hailey Addonizio, Bella Donaldson, Piper Brant, Reena Fielding, Isabella Gaglio and Jaina Jackowski, would not allow the Warriors to get any shots on goal in the 30 minutes.

The half ended with Ayla Mauk getting a score with a pass from Amanda Flanders to the center of the penalty box. The second half saw more of the stout defense by Hopewell push back any attempt by Hamilton to score.

There was more offense by Hopewell, as Lilly Gaglio threw the ball in at midfield to Sierra Mitchell, who was able to move through three defenders and drive in for the score.

Carly Brant finished with two goals, as her second came when she rushed the net to follow up a blocked shot by Hamilton’s goalie, ending the game 5-0 for Hopewell. Chelsea Kent and Evie L. were the keepers for Hopewell, getting their fourth combined shutout of the year.

On a very wet Sunday afternoon, Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery was home to the Hamilton Crusaders. Despite the rain, the field was in great shape, and the players showed no issues as they ran up and down the field.

The first half ended with Hopewell down by one, as the Crusaders had a high, perfectly placed shot from 20 yards out hit the back of the net. Despite being down by a goal at halftime, Jack’s Nursery was not about to give up, and mounted a comeback that saw Sonia Tenbarge drill the equalizer right by the goalie in the first few minutes of the half.  Next it was Carly Brant’s turn. She got into a footrace down the right side and was able to gain a stride advantage, firing the ball low and inside between the goalie and the right post.

Hopewell was able to continue moving the ball around, and the third goal was scored by Lilla Antal after receiving a pass at the 18-yard mark from Sierra Mitchell. The game ended 4-1 in favor of Hopewell, as Ayla Mauk added the final score with roughly five minutes left in the match.
