MILLSTONE – A seat on the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education is being sought by a resident as a write-in candidate in the Nov. 5 election.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The school board terms currently held by David DePinho, Sal Casale and Kevin McGovern will expire at the end of the year. The three men are not seeking re-election and no other residents filed a nominating petition to run for the three available three-year terms on the nine-member board.
In the past week, resident Amrita Singh announced her write-in candidacy through an online page. Singh has resided in Millstone for nine years and works in the pharmaceutical industry. She previously ran for a seat on the Board of Education in 2016 and 2017.
“At a very young age, I was taught that most everything in life can be taken away in a split second, except for your education,” Singh wrote in her announcement. “Knowledge provides the power to be informed, to make informed decisions and the power to educate others.
“I truly believe we have a gifted district of educators who go above and beyond to provide the emotional, social and academic balance every child needs throughout each grade.
“If given the opportunity to serve on the Board of Education, I would ensure that we take every step to empower our children to succeed and further connect the administration, educators and parents,” she said.
