Under the board’s voting structure, residents of Englishtown and Manalapan will vote for Cappiello.

Cappiello has lived in Englishtown for 25 years. She has two adult children who are graduates of Manalapan High School. She has been a registered nurse for 45 years and has worked at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, for more than 30 years in the Emergency Department.

She served on the Freehold Regional board for 11 years as Englishtown’s representative before taking a break. She returned to the board in 2018 when she was appointed to fill the open Englishtown seat.

Commenting on her decision to continue serving the community by seeking a new term, Cappiello said, “I stepped forward again about 18 months ago when Englishtown had a vacancy. I feel it is very important for each of our sending communities to have a voice in the district’s operation.

“The challenge ahead will be to find a way to deal with the catastrophic impact of the S-2 (school funding) legislation on our school district in the coming years.

“Opioid addiction and the rampant vaping crisis are two issues I would like to work to find some workable solutions for in our schools. Being more idealistic, I would like to find a way for our district to reduce our carbon footprint. A starting point would be to work to reduce and recover food surpluses,” Cappiello said.
